To My Sister

You are my sister.

The dark glass between me and you,
Born of violence done
Mountains peaks leveled
Walls of Jericho raised
And scarred, cracked and
Many patched, re-welded battering rams,
May never let pass through
The clarity of sun's light
To let us see each other
unfiltered and unclouded.

Through the maelstroms we may pass
Across the unremitting desert's barren sands,
Our tears, laughter, blood,
Understanding, prejudices, fear and love
Will bring us closer
