"I am living out my life in my corner, taunting myself with the spiteful and useless consolation that an intelligent man cannot become anything seriously, and it is only the fool who becomes anything....A man ought to be pre-eminently a characterless creature; a man of character, an active man, is pre-eminently a limited creature." -Notes from the Underground, F. Dostoevsky

Effect of Visual Stimuli in Electric Aversion Therapy

By popular demand, here is an abstract of Max Ford McBride's 1976 PhD dissertation describing his electroshock therapy experiments on gay men at BYU. Apparently, "it was found that nude male pictures used in treatment were more effective in diminishing sexual responsiveness to male stimuli...[I]nitial use of nude female pictures may inhibit fantasy activity during treatment."

The full dissertation may be obtained at the Harold B. Lee library bookshelves, call number BF 18.022 .M33 1976.
